Thanksgiving Day originated in the United States as a harvest festival, with the first widely recognized celebration in 1621 by Pilgrims and Native Americans. Puerto Rico, as a U.S. territory since 1898, adopted the holiday following American cultural influence. The U.S. Congress officially set Thanksgiving as the fourth Thursday of November in 1941, and Puerto Rico observes it as a federal holiday, with local government offices and schools closing.
