Saint Clement of Ohrid Day

Saint Clement of Ohrid (c. 840–916) was a disciple of Saints Cyril and Methodius and a prominent scholar who helped create the Glagolitic and Cyrillic alphabets. After the Great Moravia mission, he was sent to the region of Ohrid, where he established a literary school and trained thousands of clergy. Clement's work laid the foundation for Slavic Christian culture in the Balkans. The holiday was first observed in North Macedonia after its independence in the 1990s, as Saint Clement is considered the patron saint of the Macedonian people and the first Slavic bishop in the region. December 8 was chosen as his feast day because it is traditionally associated with his death date.
