Origin & history
The holiday originates from the Green March in 1975 when Morocco reclaimed the Western Sahara from Spanish colonial rule. Following the Madrid Accords, Mauritania occupied the southern part, including Oued Ed-Dahab province. However, internal instability in Mauritania led to its withdrawal, and on August 14, 1979, the province was formally reintegrated into Morocco. This event is celebrated as Zikra Oued Ed-Dahab, symbolizing the completion of Moroccan territorial integrity.
