Origin & history
China's National Day commemorates the establishment of the People's Republic of China on October 1, 1949. On that day, Chairman Mao Zedong proclaimed the founding of the new nation at a grand ceremony in Tiananmen Square, Beijing, following the Chinese Communist Party's victory in the Chinese Civil War. The date was officially designated as National Day in December 1949 by the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
The first National Day parade was held in 1950, and since then, the holiday has been celebrated annually. Major parades and mass gatherings were held on significant anniversaries, particularly the 10th, 35th, 50th, 60th, and 70th anniversaries, showcasing China's military strength and national achievements.

National Day is marked by a week-long public holiday known as 'Golden Week,' during which people travel, visit family, and participate in festive activities. Major celebrations include a grand military parade and civilian procession in Tiananmen Square, held every five or ten years, featuring soldiers, tanks, missiles, and floats representing China's progress.
